A party of buffalo hunters, seduced by the free life and the ever-increasing demand in the market for buffalo skins, not paying attention to the Indian camps, chased after a large herd of buffalo. As a result, an armed clash with the Indians occurred. The Kiowa and Comanche tribes took up arms. Thousands of warriors of these tribes surrounded a small detachment of hunters and the military guards accompanying them and, after repeated and persistent attacks, were repulsed.
