This book presents a complete record of conversations that Polish journalists Witold Beres and Krzysztof Burnetko had with Marek Edelman (1919–2009) shortly before his death. Edelman is one of those who led the resistance to the fascists in the Warsaw ghetto, and the only one of the leaders of the uprising who survived after its defeat; he later became a cardiologist. Marek Edelman was an amazing person. Getting to know him, including through this book, makes you look differently at the world, at what is happening in the world, at your own life. What Edelman talks about concerns each of us and has the most direct relation to us - be it his story about the Warsaw ghetto, or about post-war Poland, or about the fate of the daughter of a deceased friend, or about the heart operations he performed. Journalists question Edelman in the light of the commandments of the Decalogue: a convinced atheist, he is undoubtedly a model of behavior for many people, including believers.
