Many centuries ago, people were forced to leave their home planet and settle on a planet almost entirely covered by ocean. This is how the Azure Palace arose - the underwater city of earthly colonists. Symbiont creatures called emirangs helped people breathe underwater. But the emirang could drag a person into the Abyss - a giant rift in the oceanic crust - from where there would be no return. Inga was lucky, she was one of the few who passed the Path of the Survivors, and the ocean became her native element.
