Greg Gaines is an ordinary teenager and, like many shy young people, tries not to stand out from the crowd. He can become invisible in any social environment. He has only one friend, Earl, and together they make movies - parodies of classic films by cult directors. The turning point in Greg's life comes when his mother asks him to renew his friendship with his childhood friend, Rachel Kushner, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
