Olga Andreeva-Carlisle (b. 1930) is an artist, journalist, and translator. Granddaughter of the writer Leonid Andreev, daughter of Vadim Andreev and niece of the author of the mystical work “The Rose of the World”, philosopher Daniil Andreev. September 1, 1939. Nine-year-old Olya with her mother and little brother comes to relax on the island of Oleron, not far from the Atlantic coast of France. The Andreevs will spend five years in the village of Saint-Denis in the north of Oleron. They will survive the defeat of France and the arrival of the Germans, will recite Russian poetry by heart by the light of an oil lamp and organize masquerades. Risking freedom and life, listen to radio in London and Moscow at night and participate in the Resistance movement. In January 1945, the Germans will send everyone from Oleron to the continent who they do not need. The Andreevs will find themselves in free France, but before that they will have to endure many more trials. Moving from a leisurely narrative about the history of an emigrant family and the morals of a patriarchal French village to an action-packed denouement, Olga Andreeva-Carlyle writes her memoirs as a fascinating novel. The publisher's edition is saved in PDF A4 format design.
