Empress Maria Feodorovna (1847 - 1928), widow of Alexander III, and her daughters Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna (1875 - 1960) and Olga Alexandrovna (1882 - 1960), having left Russia after the revolution, found shelter at the courts of European monarchies, in Denmark, in Great Britain.The letters of the mother and sisters of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II for the period 1918 - 1940 included in this publication. were addressed to Princess Alexandra Alexandrovna Obolenskaya (ur. Apraksina, 1851 - 1943), the former maid of honor of Empress Maria Feodorovna. After the death of A. A. Obolenskaya, the letters were kept by her niece Countess Maria Nikolaevna Chernysheva-Bezobrazova (born Shcherbatova, 1887 - 1977), and in 1961 they were transferred by her to the Bakhmetev Archive (New York) with the condition not to open correspondence in for 50 years.Published for the first time.
