The author of the book is a Russian Old Believer chapel from Argentina, Danila Terentyevich Zaitsev, born in 1959 in China. This is a long and fascinating story about the life of the Old Believers, comparable to a family chronicle-novel, written vividly and with humor. A book is a secular work, but created by a person with a religious consciousness, which determines the plots of life, the attitude towards events, people, and himself. “The Tale...” reflects the history of many Old Believer families, their flight from Bolshevik Russia to China, and from “collective farm” China to South America in 1959. The events take place in China, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, the USA, Russia. At the center of the story is the life of the author and his family, with a detailed story about the failed attempt to resettle to Russia in 2008. D. Zaitsev writes about the difficult relations in the communities associated with intra-confessional differences between the “Xinjiang residents” and the “Harbin residents”, sometimes leading to quarrels , misunderstandings and personal tragedies. But the main thing in the book is the story about the everyday life of Russian people, living according to ancient covenants, for the sake of which, as befits Christian believers, they are ready to endure suffering, endure poverty and deprivation. And one more thing: the Russian dialect language, which sounds in all its primordial power in the book, is still spoken today by the Old Believers of South America.
