The Spitsbergen Diary belongs to the genre of a novel, although it completely lacks any love conflict, without which many readers cannot imagine a novel. This is not a scientific work, but the writer’s reflections, his studies of human relationships, which acquire special significance in the polar archipelago, where Russians and Norwegians, being thousands of kilometers from their homes, are forced to live together, cooperate, be friends, argue, love. These are the stories of an eyewitness and participant in many of the events described, often tragic, intriguing, presented in artistic form. The reader will not only meet many people who were attracted to Svalbard from different countries, but will also learn a lot about the archipelago itself, its unique nature and the sparse but extremely interesting animal world.
