It contains over 5 thousand articles about the names of the most significant objects on Earth: states, cities, seas, rivers, mountains, etc., as well as the names of many other small but historically and culturally valuable objects. It tells about the history of these names, about the changes that took place with them, and their reasons. In compiling the dictionary, extensive modern domestic and foreign literature was used. The dictionary is of interest not only to geographers, linguists, historians, who to one degree or another come into contact with geographical names in their activities, but also to a wide range of readers interested in names as an important branch of the spiritual culture of mankind.
