Christopher Hampton earned a reputation as a young genius at the age of eighteen by writing a play that became a hit in London's West End. He has written a large number of his own plays, as well as translations and adaptations of such classic masterpieces as Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, Ibsen's Hedda Gabler and Moliere's Don Juan. His play Dangerous Liaisons, based on the novel by Choderlos de Laclos, was performed in the West End more than two thousand times, and for the film adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons directed by Stephen Frears, he received an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. In the same category, he was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay for Atonement, based on the novel by Ian McEwan. Hampton is also known as a film director - his production “Dreaming of Argentina” was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and “Carrington” received a special jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival. This book presents two plays by Hampton that received equally high-profile film incarnations: “The Word Cure "about the origins of psychoanalysis, based on which David Cronenberg directed the film "A Dangerous Method" in 2011 (the role of Sigmund Freud was played by Viggo Mortsen, Carl Gustav Jung - Morton Fassbender, Sabina Spielrein - Keira Knightley, Otto Gross - Vincent Cassel), and "Total Eclipse "about the scandalous history of the relationship between two outstanding French poets Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud (Agnieszka Holland's 1995 film of the same name, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Rimbaud). For the first time in Russian.
