The novel Heat takes place in Berlin, a huge, busy and tough city. Germans, Turks, Poles, Spaniards live in it side by side, but between them there is a wall of misunderstanding and alienation. The main character is a German with a Dutch surname, a “reluctant foreigner”, a gentle, slightly strange person - gets a job as a driver in a company where only immigrants work. He travels all day through the noisy and bustling streets, observing the life of the city, its inhabitants, and suddenly recognizes his city from an unexpected side. And this life is far from the Berlin that he knew before... Ralph Rothman is a master of expressive, figurative language.
