Timothy Irvine Frederick Findlay, known in literary circles as TIFF (1930–2001), is one of Canada's most distinguished writers, a recipient of the highest orders of Canada and France. His novel The Wars (1977) won the Governor General's Award, and his play The Stillborn Lover (1993) won the Arthur Ellis and Chalmers Awards. T. Findlay is the only Canadian author to receive the Canadian Literary Association's top award in all three categories: fiction (Not Wanted on Voyage, 1984), non-fiction (Inside Memory: Pages from a Writer's Workbook, 1990) and playwrights (The Stillborn Lover , 1993). The novel “Pilgrim” (1999), which was awarded several prestigious Canadian awards, brought him worldwide fame. “If You Dig Deeper” (Spadework, 2001) is the latest novel by T. Findlay - a kind of declaration of love to the city of Stratford and the Shakespeare Theater Festival, in which he himself took part more than once as an organizer, and as an actor, and as a playwright.
