Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) is one of the most popular American writers of the pulp magazine era, a classic of American literature. He had a tremendous influence on popular literature in general and adventure fiction in particular. Much of the science fiction of the 20s and 30s was written in direct imitation of Burroughs' books. Many authors have said that he had a significant influence on their work - for example, Ray Bradbury and Philip José Farmer, and successors include such writers as John Norman and Otis Cline. In 2012, Tarzan, the world-famous literary hero of Edgar Burroughs, turned 100 years. Could the author, a failed businessman who decided to try his hand at the literary field, imagine what a bestseller his novel about Tarzan would turn out to be? The first novel, Tarzan of the Apes, about the adventures of a descendant of English lords who grew up in the jungle, was followed by 23 sequel. The image of a strong, handsome, fearless and fair hero, whom one wants to imitate, immediately and for a long time won the sympathy of readers. Contents: Tarzan (cycle)
