Technologist Max escapes from the slave owners to another part of space, where there is no concept of slavery. Having captured a small ship and some valuable raw materials, he fearlessly sets off on a solo journey through wild space to freedom and a new life.

On the way, the hero comes across a dead ship of an ancient race, where he receives a strange gift, the value of which has yet to be discovered . Having reached the free worlds, Max becomes a full and wealthy citizen of the Commonwealth. Fortunately, people like him live here, with the only small difference being that the local civilization has advanced several thousand years in its development.
