Peter Beagle has been compared to everyone - Lewis Carroll, John R.R. Tolkien, Ursula Le Guin, etc. Indeed, his "The Last Unicorn" in terms of impeccability of literary taste, grace and brilliance of the game, in terms of the charm and attractiveness of the characters, in the atmosphere of the approaching miracle, it is quite comparable with “Alice”, and with the cheerful confusion of “The Hobbit”, and with the romantic heroics of Earthsea. It is classic in the sense in which any work of literature that adds a piece of joyful warmth to the heart of the reader becomes a world classic. When unicorns leave the world, the world becomes poorer, like the sky, which has been deprived of all the stars.
