Andreas Okopenko (b. 1930) is one of the most famous poets and writers of modern Austria, winner of numerous literary prizes (in 2001 - the Georg Trakl Prize). His novel “The Lexicon of a Sentimental Journey to the Exporters' Meeting in Druden” (1970) in many ways anticipated postmodern “hypertext” literature. Poetry collections (“Green November”, 1957; “Why are toilets so sad?”, 1969, etc.) brilliantly combine the lyrical element with a parody-satirical beginning. The novel “Kindernatsi” (1984) presents the history of the 20th century in its unceremonious and unofficial appearance. The stronger the impression of the reader who learns from the boy’s diary entries about “ordinary fascism” and about the breeding ground from which all totalitarianism grows and which is called “indifferent participation.”
