“The Stone of Faith” is a complete systematic presentation of the Orthodox doctrine. The book was written in 1718 by the outstanding church and statesman of Peter the Great's times, Metropolitan Stefan Yavorsky (1658-1722) in defense of Orthodoxy, “To the Orthodox sons of the Holy Church for affirmation and spiritual creation, but for those who stumble over a stone - for rebellion and correction” in conditions of active propaganda Protestantism and the weakening of the Orthodox faith among the Russian people. The book, distinguished by its vividness and imagery of presentation, has a clear structure. It includes twelve extensive treatises - Orthodox Dogmas on holy icons, on the sign of the Holy Cross, on holy relics, on the Sacrament of the Eucharist, on the invocation of saints, on the entry of holy souls into the Heavenly abodes, on doing good to the deceased, on Traditions, on the Holy Liturgy, about holy fasts, about good deeds, about the punishment of heretics. The presentation of the Dogma is followed by its evidence from the Old and New Testaments, Council Rules, and the works of the Holy Fathers, followed by a refutation of objections against it.
