Many books and memoirs have been written about the Baikonur Cosmodrome. In this article, the author set out to not only talk about how the conquest of space took place from the steppe expanses of Kazakhstan, but also about the daily life of the Baikonur people, about which practically nothing is known, with the exception of the myths about the “paradise” that flourished on the territory of the space harbor. Of course, I did not set myself the task of documenting Baikonur reality. Therefore, my narrative uses many stories and tales that walk around the space harbor. And, considering that the world’s first cosmodrome began from the station village of Tyura-Tam, we can say: Baikonur is the village closest to space.
