“Transgenderism and Transfeminism” is the first book in Russian that examines transgenderism from the point of view of feminist theory, as well as one of the first devoted entirely to transgenderism. The book is characterized by a non-pathologizing and non-binary approach. Reviewing both concepts previously put forward in English-language literature and the current post-Soviet agenda of the movement (especially its transfeminist direction), Yana Kirey-Sitnikova analyzes topics such as: non-pathologizing non-binary terminology, problems of cisnormativity and transphobia, the relationship between trans* and feminist movements, intersectionality and the concept of privilege, domestic violence against transgender people, body acceptance, theories of gender identity formation and models of depathologizing gender variance.
