The duet of Lidia Blinova and Rustam Khalfin played an important role in the formation of the Kazakh modern art scene. They were not only spouses, but also colleagues in art, often creating joint conceptual projects that were at the intersection of several disciplines - architecture, painting, sculpture, performance. The concept of “pulota,” a combination of emptiness and fullness, a kind of “surplus element of art” according to Malevich, was developed by the spouses together and can serve as a striking example of the collective intellectual work of artists. Khalfin himself called Blinova his “alter ego.” “The essays collected in this book are not art criticism or art historical essays. These are not memoirs or even literary portraits, but rather a not very skillful declaration of love. The reader will undoubtedly notice that the declaration of love in this case is addressed not only to the main characters of the essays - to Lydia Blinova and Rustam Kulfin - but also to those thinkers, writers and artists who are mentioned and quoted in these texts.
