Flea markets became popular in Europe in the second half of the 20th century - during a period when the active intervention of big history with its wars, revolutions and grandiose projects for the “improvement” of a person or society in the space of private life began to be replaced by nostalgia for the “good old days” " Meanwhile, “flea markets” have become a point where personal narratives are important, where the fates of individual things and people—former owners, sellers, and buyers—come together. The book by Igor and Natalya Narskikh is both a personal love story for flea markets and antiques that take on new life from new owners, and an exploration of this phenomenon as a special environment with its own unwritten laws and regional characteristics. The authors talk about the past, present and possible future of such markets, which today compete with Internet platforms, and share their experience as custodians of material memory. The book is illustrated with photographs from their family archive. Igor Narsky is a historian, professor at Perm State University; Natalya Narskaya is a sociologist.
