Archimedes of Syracuse lived in an era of war, so it is not surprising that he used part of his talent to create machines designed to protect his hometown. The scientist made a serious contribution to this field of activity, as well as to all others within his circle of interests: mathematics, physics, engineering, astronomy... He calculated the area of a parabola segment using a method that can be considered a harbinger of integral calculus. He discovered the physical laws of how a lever works and even dared to count the number of grains of sand that could fill the Universe - such a huge number that Archimedes had to invent his own way of recording it! But most of all, the ancient Greek scientist was glorified by the discovery of the law of hydrostatics, which now bears his name. This law is, without a doubt, one of the most important in history, and it rightfully received that joyful exclamation, which has since become a symbol of scientific discovery: “Eureka!” Note.
