In 2013, Astrid and Sonja Holleder decided to do the unthinkable: they confronted their brother Willem, better known as “the Dutch’s favorite criminal.” His name sounded throughout the world after he kidnapped the head of the Heineken beer company, Alfred Heineken, and a series of contract killings. But few people knew that for three decades Holleder terrorized his family members, extorted money from them and threatened them with violence. Holleder’s crimes affected the lives of each of the family members: the estrangement between the sworn brothers Willem Holleder and Cor van Hout, who was killed in 2003, threats against crime reporter Peter R. DeVries, contract killings and extortion. Astrid Holleder speaks candidly about her youth, her mother and children, former partners, her work as a lawyer and the dual role she played as her brother's confidant. So she remained in his inner circle and secretly recorded their conversations with the only goal: to get him a life sentence in prison and try to save her life.
