The author of the book, Charles Roberts (1860–1943), received worldwide recognition for his stories from the life of nature. Animals and birds of the deep Canadian forests became the heroes of his works. They grow, hunt, defend themselves from enemies, and escape the winter cold. In the stories translated into Russian by N. Chukovsky, Her Majesty Nature appears in all the fullness of life, a nature that now requires human care and attention.
