In 1904, Aleister Crowley decided to create the most extreme erotic fantasy in the world for his wife, radically expanding his sexual vocabulary. In “A Depraved Novel”, the skinman steams an eel trap and probes a rotten hollow, the cooter plays cook and granny with a furry muff, the chickenman spews out Scottish broth. Crowley cured readers who saw their own swinish lust brought to the point of absurdity from Victorian modesty and a sense of sin. “A depraved novel” was included in the collection “Snowdrops from the Vicar’s Garden,” which was secretly printed in a small edition in France. Almost all copies were confiscated during shipment and destroyed, and the book, until its reprint in 1986, remained known only to collectors of erotica. The Russian translation of “A Depraved Romance” is published for the first time.
