The author of this book, Mr. Ian Worres, convinced me at the end of my life that it was my duty, both before history and before my family, to tell about the true events associated with the reign of the last representative of the House of Romanov. Such a cruel fate towards my family members may have deliberately spared me for so many years in order to give me the opportunity to break the vow of silence and protect my family from so many slander and rumors directed against them. I am grateful to the Almighty for giving me such an opportunity at the threshold of the grave. There is only one thing that saddens me: I will not see this book published. Due to many of my ailments due to my advanced years, I do not have the opportunity to write these memoirs personally. For over a year, in long conversations, we discussed all aspects and events of my life together with Mr. Worres, who enjoys my complete confidence. I placed at his disposal all the letters and photographs that were in my possession, and I gave him all the information necessary to create this book. May these pages truthfully illuminate the two reigns of the House of Romanov, so mercilessly distorted by fables and the “creations” of irresponsible writers. May Mr. Worres's book enable the reading public to re-evaluate at least some of the persons and events closely connected with one of the greatest and most tragic Dynasties in Europe.
