This is a collection of works by the most authoritative and outstanding researchers of mythology and religion of antiquity, studying the archetype of the Great Mother from different angles. Each study is a full-fledged monograph dedicated to a specific culture and mythology, be it Indian, Celtic, Babylonian or Christian. A separate study is devoted to the archetype of the Great Mother in our days.
All authors of the collection are participants in the Eranos conference, which was once organized by Carl Gustav Jung and Olga Froebe Kaptein. These conferences became the center of intellectual life in Europe in the mid-twentieth century and shaped the vector of cultural development.
The materials presented in the collection are truly unique, because they are not even available in English.
