The book by the famous orientalist, professor at Boston University I.P. Lipovsky is dedicated to the most mysterious and controversial events of biblical history. Based on a thorough analysis of the Old Testament and ancient Eastern sources, the author concludes that there are significant cultural and historical differences between the two groups of ancient Hebrew tribes - the northern and southern tribes, which allows him to present a completely new perspective on the origin of ancient Israel, the era of the patriarchs, the stay of the Jews in Egypt, the Exodus, as well as the conquest of Canaan by the Jews.
Covering in his fundamental research a period of almost one and a half thousand years - from the Patriarch Abraham to the destruction of the first Temple of Jerusalem, I.P. Lipovsky finds confirmation of many facts set out in the Bible, and at the same time, his work once again proves that true history always turns out to be incomparably richer and more multifaceted than its reflection even in the greatest literary monuments.
Written in a lively, fascinating language, the book is addressed to both specialists - historians, orientalists , religious scholars, cultural experts, and anyone interested in ancient history.
