The planet has been gripped by a mysterious epidemic: plants have begun to spread a virus that is dangerous only to humans. A shady linden tree in the yard, a bouquet of flowers, and a tomato in a salad can be a threat... The army is hastily destroying forests, everyone is required to be vaccinated - but neither vaccines nor flamethrowers can save you from the disease, and only one ordinary teenager knows about it. named Thomas Drimm. Almost ordinary. Thomas once already prevented the end of the world - and then unwittingly doomed humanity to a new danger, finding himself in the center of other people's intrigues. He suspects that there is evil intent behind the epidemic, but whose? And who to trust in this world, which seems to have turned inside out: the “green lungs” of the city are about to strangle him, a classmate in love with Thomas is trying to kill him, and the weak father suddenly turns into an important political figure... And even an old acquaintance, Professor Picton, makes itself felt again - and declares that the fate of the whole world is again in the hands of Thomas Drimm. The dystopian novel “The War with the Trees Begins on the Thirteenth” is the second part of the trilogy about the adventures of Thomas Drimm. Didier van Covelaert (born 1960) is a Prix Goncourt winner and the author of two dozen novels and scripts for several French and Hollywood films. He is traditionally interested in three topics: the impact of technology on society, human psychology under stress, and life after death. All these motives are effectively intertwined in “Thomas Drimm”, and to them is added another, new for the writer, motive of the hero’s growing up.
