2059. The Earth is on the verge of complete extinction: thirty years ago, a universal catastrophe led to a stop in the rotation of the planet. Only a few states have survived, the most powerful of which is Britain, which lies in the twilight zone. The isolationist regime established in it, through genocide and the ruthless exploitation of refugees from Europe, provides the native British with a tolerable existence. But Helen Hopper, an oceanographer, prefers to live and work away from the authorities, on a platform in the Atlantic Ocean. However, when security agents fly from London to pick her up, demanding that she meet with her dying teacher, Helen agrees - and unwittingly finds herself drawn into a cycle of events that could become fateful for all humanity.
