The Stone Tablets is a novel about the life of a young Hungarian diplomat on diplomatic duty in India between December 1955 and January 1957. During his stay in Delhi, in Hungary - where he left his family - the memorable events of October 1956 take place. “Tablets of Stone” is a novel about great love, about India...Carnal desires are mixed with deep affection. The main characters are entangled in conflicts with others, involving envy, suspicion and condemnation against the backdrop of world historical dramas. The novel contains a lot of Indian exoticism, passion and traps, envy, intrigue and diplomacy, crimes without obvious punishments. We see the victims of the struggle for the rajas' ownership of gold, which gives power over the world of passions. The fate of the lovers takes an unexpected turn under the influence of the events of Hungarian history in 1956. “Stone Tablets” is a book worth returning to, discovering new threads and beauties of this epic prose. Translated from Polish by E. Nevyakin; Al. Al. Shcherbakov. Published in the magazine "NEVA" 1992, Nos. 2–5.
