The book by Ivan Mitrofanovich Novokhatsky reliably and in detail shows the features of the actions of the Soviet divisional artillery during the Great Patriotic War, describes front-line life and trench everyday life of a Soviet soldier and officer. During the war years, I. M. Novokhatsky changed several artillery professions - he commanded a communications platoon, a reconnaissance platoon, and a battery of 76-mm ZIS-3 regimental guns. The author walked a long way through swamps, steppes and mountains from Demyansk to Prague, participated in the Soviet-Japanese War, supporting and helping out the long-suffering infantry in battle. Extremely interesting are the memories of the battles in the area of the Demyansk Pocket, the crossing of the Dnieper, participation in the Korsun-Shevchenko battle, the battles for the liberation of Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, the march through the Mongolian desert during the Soviet-Japanese War.
