Egan writes works in the genre of hard science fiction, giving preference to topics relating to mathematics, quantum mechanics, the nature of consciousness, genetics, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and the relationship between rational materialism and religion. Due to some general specificity and overload of scientific component (such a branch in SF is even called “hardest science fiction”), Egan’s work resonates, of course, not with all science fiction fans, and it, one might say, has not yet received the full recognition that it certainly deserves...
