The novel by Bayangali Alimzhanov is a tale about the life of a simple steppe dweller Asanbay, the drama of his fate, closely connected with the centuries-old history of the Kazakh people fighting for self-preservation and freedom. The problems of interethnic relations are touched upon - the heroes of the book are Kazakhs, Russians, Germans, Ukrainians, Poles, Belarusians, Tajiks. The hundred-year-old elder bequeaths to his descendants: Never humiliate or destroy people!
