Yoga Vasishtha is an amazing book. The study of this creation can undoubtedly help the attentive reader in achieving higher knowledge and self-realization. The stated teaching is close in spirit to Advaita and Kashmir Shaivism. It is considered one of the fundamental texts of Indian philosophy, revealing the teaching from an intuitive point of view. The book explains the principles of the doctrine and illustrates them with a huge number of stories, fairy tales and parabolas. It is intended for spiritually advanced seekers, but others will also undoubtedly find food for thought in this book. The book is a collection of dialogues between a huge number of sages who gathered at the royal palace to impart the highest knowledge to Prince Rama. Rama asks questions, which are answered by the sage Vasishtha. Vasishtha's teachings concern all issues related to inner knowledge of one's own nature, as well as the cycles of creation, maintenance and destruction of the world. Briefly, the teaching is that everything is a manifestation of infinite Consciousness, including the material world, i.e. the world as you see it. The book has been translated into Russian from an English translation of the Sanskrit original. The English version, from which a free translation was made in places, belongs to Swami Venkatesananda, and the sage Valmiki is considered the author of the Sanskrit original. In the second virtual edition of Yoga Vasishtha, the transcription of Sanskrit names and titles is given in accordance with generally accepted norms, and also the previously omitted descriptions of pranayama practices in the Tale of Bhushunda and the dialogue of ministers in the Tale of Vipaschita are added. The English (and this) translation is an abridged version of the original Yoga of Vasishtha, covering approximately 1/3 of the book.
