Alexis Salatko (b. 1959) is a popular author of novels and fictionalized biographies in France. In the 1980s and 1990s, he was a journalist, worked in publishing, and also wrote screenplays with Roman Polanski and Didier Decoing. The Jean Frestier Prize-winning novel Horowitz and My Dad is the story of a lifelong musical duel between two great pianists who simultaneously graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory. One of them - Vladimir Horowitz - became known throughout the world, the genius of the other - the narrator's father - was not recognized by anyone except his family. This is a love story... The love story of a man born for fame, but who chose a woman and the joys of ordinary life. The love story of the hero of the novel for his father, the story of emerging mutual understanding, full of tenderness and irony. “You read Salatko’s novel with the same feeling with which you listen to a Tchaikovsky concerto or a Chopin nocturne: there is as much passion as sadness here...”
