ABSTRACT The main character, the Professor, is buying antiques. He accidentally learns from a young cafe employee, Anyuta, that Peter’s rubles are found in her garden. In order to get into the garden and take the treasure, the antique dealer persuades the girl to commit a scam. She agrees, and they go to the village, portraying a loving couple with the most serious intentions in front of Raisa Semyonovna, Anechka’s mother. Moreover, the antique dealer appears not to be Anyuta’s simple fiancé, but to a foreigner – an Italian. The roles played well by the daughter and the Professor convince the mother to throw an engagement party that same evening. Everything goes according to the plan outlined by the Professor, but one circumstance destroys his plans...
