The Kabbalah is the first novel by the famous Thornton Wilder (1897-1975), written by him in 1922, after completing his studies at Yale University and the American Academy in Rome. Apart from its inherent merits, the Kabbalah is all the more interesting to all who love Wilder because of its strange connection with his last novel, Theophilus North: the action of the Kabbalah ends approximately as many days before the beginning of Theophilus North as it takes to travel by boat from Italy to the United States, and after finishing this book, you begin to suspect that its hero and narrator, who is never named in the novel, could well be called Theophilus North.
