The ballad from the series “Historical Works” describes the battle of 1242, also included in history under the name “Battle of the Ice,” in which Russian soldiers led by Prince Alexander Nevsky defeated the German (Teutonic) knights. The work is replete with many historical facts, names and details of the situation of that time. The ballad was written in a style unique to historical works - as if from the perspective of the direct participants in the events.
