The work of the greatest German historian J. Beloch “Greek History” still remains the most complete general history of Greece in the archaic and classical eras existing in Russian (VIII -IV centuries BC). In most general courses on ancient Greek history, it is often reduced to the history of Athens and Sparta. This work gives the history of Ancient Greece as a whole. This is almost the only general course of Greek history in Russian, from which you can learn about the development of events in Miletus, Byzantium, Megara, Corinth, Sicyon, Syracuse, Akragante, Boeotia, Thessaly, Phokis, Argolis, Kerkyra, Euboea, Samos, Lesvos and other policies, regions and islands of Greece. From this work one can glean quite detailed information about the activities of not only Solon, Pisistratus, Cleisthenes, Pericles, Leonidas, and Pausanias. but also Thrasybulus, Polycrates, Cypselus, Theagenes, Gelon, Hiero, both Dionysius, Dion, Timoleon and many other prominent historical figures. K.Yu. Beloch was one of the first to study not only the political, but also the socio-economic history of Greece, which, however, not only did not interfere at all, but, on the contrary, helped him give excellent essays on the development of Greek spiritual culture (philosophy, science, art, religion).
