Among the historical necropolises of Russia, the Novodevichy Cemetery, which arose in the 16th century on the territory of the Novodevichy Convent, occupies a special place. Over time, it separated from the monastery and became an elite burial place, which turned it into a kind of pantheon of the Soviet era. But the Novodevichy cemetery remained without a printed monument for many years. Finally, in 1995, the author of this publication, S.E. Kipnis, published his book “Novodevichy Memorial. Necropolis of Novodevichy Cemetery. However, beyond the brief biographical information about the persons whose remains and ashes rest in the cemetery, there were little-known and sometimes completely unknown facts, stories about amazing crossings of destinies, tragic events, interesting stories associated with tombstones, etc. And the author of the “Novodevichy Memorial”, believing that much of what was “overboard” deserves the reader’s attention and can become an interesting addition to the actual reference publication, created the book “Notes of a Necropolisist. Walks around Novodevichy."The reader of this book will take a fascinating tour of Novodevichy, accompanied by a kind, ironic and erudite guide.
