Over the centuries, hundreds of tales and legends about vampires have been told. For centuries, some parents have frightened their children with stories about demons of the night that feed on human blood, so that they do not go out into the yard when the sun goes down. One of those with whom the concept of “vampirism” is still identified was the Romanian Count Vlad III Basarab, better known to the whole world as Count Dracula. Vlad received the nickname Dracula (Son of the Dragon, or Dragon the Younger) in honor of his father, who was (since 1431) a member of the elite knightly Order of the Dragon, created by Emperor Sigismund in 1408. Members of the order had the right to wear a medallion with the image of a dragon around their necks.
