Roy Jacobsen is perhaps the most widely read Norwegian writer in the world. He was twice nominated for the Northern Council Award, and for the book “Angel of the Winter War” he received several awards - from radio listeners, from the Union of Young Critics and the “Book of the Year - Youth Choice” prize. This is a novel about one of the key moments of the Russian-Finnish war. In November 1939, the town of Suomussalmi stood in the way of the advancing Russian troops. The Finns decide to evacuate the residents and burn the city to the ground. Leaving forever their tidy houses with freshly washed floors and piles of firewood at the doorstep, literally everyone is leaving the city, even dogs and cats. But one person, despite persuasion and threats, does not budge - the ingenuous and naive Timmo, an eccentric like no other. And now the existence of Russian soldiers stuck in the ashes, in the darkness and cold of the polar night depends on him.
