“Allow me to introduce myself - Vyacheslav Kabanov. I am the editor-in-chief of the Soviet Union. Unlike the darkness of today's publishers, titled with this and even higher titles, I was promoted to editor-in-chief by the Board of the State Committee for Publishing of the USSR. But I'm kidding. Moreover, my publishing house, once famous, is long gone. I have lived a long life. My peers are gradually leaving for that country where there is peace and grace. My neighbor at school, Yura Koval, did not see the year two thousand. Five of my classmates passed away; they were younger than me. So it's time to pack up your belongings. What remains of us? Koval, of course, knew what he was leaving for us... And we, mortals? At best, we leave children and grandchildren. But how much will they know about us? And what should I do with my memory? She will disappear, just like me. And I wrote a book about myself, and now I know what will remain of me... Not to humanity, of course, but only to close people whom I knew and loved. I leave them old Moscow and old Gelendzhik, I leave my war childhood and post-war cinema, the sea and mountains, I leave to them all my mother, grandfather, great-grandfather and beloved friends - companions of my unremarkable life."
