The action of Irina Sergievskaya’s tragicomic novel “The Last Bebrik” takes place in St. Petersburg in the nineties of the 20th century. The soul of the talented, but, alas, drinking writer Semyon May becomes an arena of struggle between dark and light forces. How an honest person can survive in Russia and at the same time preserve his own world - this is the main question of the novel, which combines high tragedy and buffoonery, caustic irony and subtle humor, a refined style and a good knowledge of human nature.
