Mairal, the daughter of the Sultan's chief vizier, falls in love with a Gujar prisoner from the wild Mamluk detachment, condemned to execution. Mairal begs his father to spare the prisoner. This request causes a whole series of circumstances that shed light on the birth of the Mamluk. Having learned that this man is Count D'Armagnac, the vizier helps him go to France. Mairal, along with her maid, secretly goes after him. Upon arrival in France, Count D'Armagnac learns that he has a sister and they are going to marry her to Montague, the man who betrayed their father.
