What is time? Weird question. After all, everyone knows this. Everyone just talks about him. “There’s a catastrophic lack of time,” some complain. “How slowly time passes,” others say when they have to wait for something or someone. Every now and then you can hear the question: “What time is it?” or (which is not very correct) “What time is it now?” And yet, back in ancient times, one philosopher said: “I know perfectly well what time is until I think about it. But as soon as I think about it, I can’t answer.” Many years have passed since these words were spoken, but still not all the mysteries of time have been solved. And yet, the need to know time has always existed. The first watches appeared more than two and a half thousand years ago. You will soon find out what they were. But the mechanical watches we are familiar with were invented “only” 700 years ago.
