The book is the first study in world scientific literature dedicated to the mythology of the female body in the Slavic world. It sums up the results of the author’s twenty years of work in archives, and most importantly, in field expeditions conducted in one of the most archaic regions of the Slavic world - Polesie. At the center of a comprehensive study using methods of social anthropology, linguistics and folkloristics is a woman in all the diversity of her functions and life roles. The author reconstructs a significant fragment of the Slavic picture of the world associated with the view of a woman as a biological and social being. The researcher shows how different stages of socialization of a girl, and then girls and women, are reflected in the language and rituals of the family cycle (homeland, wedding, funeral). A woman’s view of physiology and work, share and family forms that “female” text of Slavic traditional culture, which gives the sought-after unity to the world.
