1952 Cardiff, Tiger Bay, home to Somali and West Indian sailors, Maltese businessmen and Jewish families. These people, whose very existence in a foreign country depends entirely on luck, protect it, try to lure it, groom and cherish it, and at the same time, deep down in their souls, they understand perfectly well that without their luck they are powerless. Mahmut Mattan is a husband, father, petty swindler and risky guy. He is a pleasant conversationalist, a charismatic swindler and a successful gambler. He is anything but a murderer. When the owner of a local store is brutally murdered one night, Mahmoud immediately comes under suspicion.
