The novel tells about Soviet soldiers who fought in Afghanistan. At the center of the story are Soviet helicopter pilots providing assistance to Afghans in their struggle, as well as Afghan peasants and soldiers, armed in hand, defending their homeland from internal counter-revolution and external enemies. As you know, the Second Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR condemned the decision to send Soviet troops into Afghanistan. However, the resolution of the Congress in no way detracts from the international feat of our soldiers, sergeants and officers, who, amidst dangers and hardships, showed exceptional fortitude, courage and nobility - those qualities that have always distinguished the Soviet soldier. The book has been corrected and supplemented by the author.
